...where you should have just stayed in bed? Welcome to my Aug. 8, 2001. ;)It started this morning when I discovered a steady stream of water running inside the heat/air duct in my kitchen, visible, of course, through the floor vent. I went into the laundry room and opened the cover to the inside part of the a/c (the water heater is also in there) to find about a half inch of water on the floor around both appliances, and no water draining from the a/c. I threw on a bathrobe (it was 6 a.m.) and went out back to see if there was any water at all coming from the drain pipe...uh, no.
My first thought at this point was to get someone to cover me at work, and call "Repair Man Who's Pants Hang Low" (Or, in this case, Men.) I then remembered that the only one available to work for me was in Huntsville all day. I also remembered that I had to stay late today to have some maintainence done to the espresso machine. Ugh.
I went to work and called the a/c company I use, only to find that they would be unable to come out today, due to my extended hours at work. I am scheduled for tomorrow at 8 a.m. (I get to go into work late!).
When I finally got home this afternoon, I figured I could go up into that outside drain pipe with a coathanger and try to unclog it myself. Low and behold, it was draining! However, the water in the duct was still running. I am assuming this "Mighty Duct Mississippi" is coming from the water heater.
I have kept my appointment with the a/c folks... I'm sure the unit can use a good cleaning and check-up anyways. And, maybe they can find the problem. In the meantime, I am throwing towels in there because the walls are wet at the very bottom, and the closet wall in my bedroom is wet about 4 inches up (This is where the access door to the water heater is located). Oh, well.
I am thankful for this situation for several reasons. #1. I had some money set aside for back to school stuff for the kids, so I am able to pay for this right now (I hope =). A week from now the money would have been spent. #2. I am having a Flake Fest this Sunday, and this will give us all something to laugh about. And #3. My Mom and sis are coming to stay for a week this next Tuesday. At least the laundry room and my closet will be clean!!
Life. Maybe not always what you expect, but ALWAYS entertaining, huh? =)
