OK, a few weeks ago I snapped a photo or two of this little fellow - whom I thought of as being quite large at the time: Since then, I have watched that spider grow a bit, enjoyed watching it running around my walls - it's legs getting longer and more spindly looking, and it's body lengthening a bit. I've been trying to get it to hold still to get a new pic, but to no avail. But I don't care anymore - 'cause, as big as it seemed to get, no way does it compare with the sucker that I nearly stepped on this morning (bare footed): SHEESH! If you're interested in figuring the little suckers out: Spiders 1 Spiders 2 Spiders 3

okay, that's REALLY gross. I'm not squeemish about much (in fact, I love snakes and other creepy crawly thing that most would be frightened of)...but I absolutely can't freaking STAND spiders!!!! They just send chills down my spine. They have like 20 eyes or something and hairy legs. Nothing nice about those 'lil creatures. :-p |

I woke up with what's on my cam...on my face. heh. Mantids aren't as creepy-crawly as spiders tho, very graceful creatures. I have him perched up on my moniter when I took the pic and even now. Wonder if he will be there in the morning... Night :) |

WOW is all I can say to you JJ! I would have simply expired today had I woke up with that Mantis on me. It looks like an alien from outerspace. Lycosa Rabida is your friend huh, Ouro? Well then we will not waste time being in fear of the rascal as he is harmless unless his looks alone give someone heart failure. I try to appreciate the spider and I keep in mind...he eats bugs, however it never works. Some are just never appreciated. Poor ole spiders. |

Wow! A cameo by the long lost JJ!I love mantids. They're more like pets, or something, than a bug. I can't imagine anyone being bothered by them. What I get a kick out of is people who find them and put them on their hat or something, out in public, as if they're not there. They just walk around with a praying mantis on their heads. What other insect (or insect like creature) could you do that with? When I was a kid, I used to rip the heads off of grasshoppers and stick praying mantis' mouths into their necks so that they'd start eating the things. That was kind of cool - a mantis eating an entire grasshopper while sitting on your knee. Too cool. |
