Yesterday, I decided to attack a flower bed that I have wanted to re-design for over a year. This included digging and replanting several large, well established plants and bushes. After almost 30 minutes of digging and prying, I finally loosened a 5 year old evergreen shrub from its spot, then began the job of digging it a new hole elsewhere in the bed. (The bush is huge, and needed a very big hole.)
My front yard is not only a mix of soil and clay, but it is very rocky. Digging is tough, to say the least. So, I dug hard. I was really making progress when I hit some old tree roots! These are not too hard to get out, it just requires a chopping motion with the sharp end of the shovel. So, away I chopped. I got the roots, AND the main telephone line to the house. Hahahahaha!!!!! (Now, I was fully aware that the phone line was there. I had even laid out a string to guide me. But, instead of the shmuck phone guy laying the line in a straight manner, he had decided to do a curvy, wavey line. I sliced it. ;)
After I finished laughing, I borrowed a neighbor's phone and got the repair guy out here. $60 and 30 minutes later, I had a new line, and was able to finish the flower bed. Needless to say, the evergreen bush got placed a bit farther to the left, the phone guy sprayed orange paint where the new line was (which is now marked clearly with rocks) and all was well. The bed looks great.
So, not only did I get a big job done, but I managed to entertain myself and the kids, a snickering neighbor, and amuse the phone guy. Am I good, or what?? Hahahahahaha!!!!
