Here is a review by my own personal heavy metal rocking writer/ husband. Hope you enjoy. I copied an e-mail he sent some others aand myself that gives a review of each song as he heard it the first time.
Hmm I'm going to listen so I'll give you a running review.
So here it is...
First song is/was (of whence i spake): BETRAYAL. Classic fast gothic metal with screamin solos. Similar to Resurrection yet better mixed somehow and a bit heavier, more complex, similar gothic feel but there are backup vocals and there really weren't on Resurrection.
It has twice the shred-osity of Resurrection and the solos will knock your socks off. I think he will find singing this song live very difficult. Screamy High vocals.
2. ROCK THE WORLD FOREVER
Sounds like best of TWO sorta. A bit anthemish and grungified at the same time. A wee bit whiney sorta, or repetitive. Hopefully not the radio cut but maybe.
3. ONE WILL
Good chunky metal staple meat and potatoes a la barracuda speed.
Strong anthemic vocals in the refrain, simple melody and very hmmm MIGHT I SAY RAMMSTEINISH???? sounds like an anthem from the fatherland but the main riff is fat and sassy you'll like it I think. Not bad.
ISN'T THIS COOL? YOU are getting free form thoughts exactly as I hear it, cause I type fast!
Now the solos...hmmm ooodly ooodly stuff to be sure,...he's waxing Malmsteenish sorta but groovier. This one is acceptable in a supporting role I guess. The mental image these songs are giving me overall is something like Skinheads in the inner city almost. Hmmm.
Plodding. A different sort of thing going on, not an aggressive song really. Subtle perhaps. Not paying much attention to the lyrics.
Hmm Grand Canyon?? hahah he just said Eeeevilllll.....hmm and Thunder....ok you get the image.
He sings the verse rough, the bridge clear, like he sometimes does.
Ah, now it picks up fast. Like megadeth fast chord changes.
Hmm it sounds very wicked nasty now. I'm mildly scared here. It sounds very sinister....ah then a ripping solo...more scary sounding vocals....fast and heavy....hehehe you'll like this one I think now.....cool...screaming fast riffs.....gothic nasty building rising solos of fire and speed....ahhh and now a very "Jawbreaker" type ending if I might say so...
Then back to the plodding.
That one was ok, not bad not bad, did actually give me the willies almost. This guy is the musical equivalent of Vincent Price. Who else can give you chills like this?
5. IN THE MORNING
Rob waxes sensitive with acoustic, nice vocal. Pretty good melody.
Overall a nice song, he sings with good skill and emotion, better than say, "Turn On Your Light" I think by a good stretch, and maybe 2 minutes long, nice just acoustic and vocals pretty much but some other stuff just subtly.
OK Man. The BRUTAL CRITIC takes out his mighty pen.
It strikes me that the formula from last time is being repeated, the songs are essentially the same as with the other album. They release tracks that are almost identical in design as the previous "formula". A fast screamy one, a pretty fast chunky one, a pop grungy one, and then something sorta epic (golgotha I guess)
But it's pretty good. =)
Sounds much more "together" and seasoned than Resurrection, that sounded less interwoven and disciplined and solid and well rehearsed like this stuff does. But really nothing terribly new here to go, "WOW, I NEVER KNEW IT COULD BE LIKE THIS!" It's sort of like, a certain level of consistency from the first album (Res), and if you like that, you'll pretty much like this, but it's fairly similar. Part 2 of Golgotha was quite savage. overall, although the guitar solos are a million times better on these songs, the songs alone do not necessarily beat out "Made in Hell" as a jammin song. Overall, very very enjoyable.
Take it easy!
