quote: W32.Klez.gen@mm is a mass-mailing worm that will send itself to all email addresses in the Microsoft Outlook Address Book. The worm may include a virus that will destroy all files on the 13th of March and September.
Geez, you guys! I am getting this virus in my email by the DOZENS from people sending to webmaster@camchatting.com - which means that the virus is getting my address from CamChatting set-up instructions stored in people's email clients (Outlook Express). I'll bet I've received 150 copies of this virus so far. For God's sakes, people: 1) Keep your software up to date (always! - this security patch came out in March of smeggin' 2001!). 2) a) Set your "Restricted Sites" option in your Internet Properties to the default setting, and then b) In your Options for Outlook Express, set "Virus Protection" on your Security tab to use the "Restricted Sites Zone". 3) Don't engage in "promiscuious" behavior with attachements that come in email. Sometimes people say, "I don't open attachments the come from anyone that I don't know." That's just plain silly!!!. If you receive a virus, IT'S ALMOST CERTAINLY GOING TO COME FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW AND LIKE. Virii spread without the sender's knowledge - if you receive a virus from someone, you know that they're just a hapless victim - someone to email back and say, "I'm sorry that happened to you." Good luck, all!

Why use Outlook Express at all? It is just something I don't need the risk of using. I say no-thanks it! |

This virus must be very successful. Variations keep popping up and I keep receiving them and they get past Norton - until I update again. Norton won't auto-update more often than once per week.Crazy. |

If people stopped using the high security Outlook Express, they'd switch to some alternative - like low security Netscape Messenger or Eudora. And once those programs start getting a large marketshare, the virus writers will start targetting them. I'll stick to OE. |

Oh and get some real virus protection people! None of the free stuff is on top of the real problems. Mcaffee had to confess in court that they had stolen their code from Norton. USE NORTON ANTI-VIRUS Protection. It is the "real deal." And yes you pay for it. hahaha |

I think it could in theory, attack me with attachments and use my computer itself as a host! But there has never been a case of a hacker making it mail out using the hotmail addy book. I do not open attachments from people that I know do not update virii protection once a week (like my friend Brenda who doesn't know what Virii protection is...Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!)or people I do not know. Nothing I could be getting is worth it. I have my own business and I do a complete back up of my system regularly to protect data, just in case. And of course Norton Anti-Virus is always active on mine and I use Zone-Alarm to protect my ports from entry. I say I am pretty safe with this protocol. I never trust just Macaffee to do the job. I have had people send me virii on MSN instant messenger in an attachment, and Norton caught and isolated it! Keep the Norton going at all times, I say! And the new firewall by Norton is great too. Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo |

I sent myself a virus through to my hotmail address - and it didn't get scanned with McAffee. Apparently the McAffee only works through the web interface. |

Stop sending virii to yourself. Will ya? Did your Norton isolate it? |
