Dumb Move #1: A deputy sheriff who lives in Brigham City, Utah, didn't pay close enough attention to the whereabouts of his gun. The result? His little toddler finds it, heads over to the neighboring daycare, enters the play area, takes aim at some pre-school kids who think it's a squirt gun, and opens fire.
The good news is that toddlers have very poor aim - and he missed.
The deputy hears a gun go off, runs over to the daycare where the woman in charge is nearly hysterical and is asking him, "Why does this child have a gun?" The deputy, according to her, yelled at her saying that he didn't know, and he insisted that she tell him what was going on - as if she knew.
Dumb move #2: The woman tells the deputy that she's going to call the police. His response, according to one of the parents of one of the kids at the daycare (I think that's who he was): "No, don't call the police - we can just work it out here."
Interesting Circumstances: When the police arrive, they find the 44 magnum (I think they said) under a tree - next to the toddler's shoe. It seems that the back kick from the gun literally knocked the kid out of one of his shoes. No arrest, apparently, was made (had it been an ordinary tax paying citizen, as opposed to someone being paid by taxes, would he have been arrested?). If the investigation of the incident is not completed by the deputy's next shift, he'll be put on "administrative leave" (and, um, would that be with pay?).
Epilogue: Life is hard.
