I'm getting clear on what it is that I'm trying to do to make this place into a "home"; just for fun, I thought I'd post my plans here.
Below is a drawing of what I intend to do here:
That's not easy to read, so I made it clickable to a larger version.
Want to see the mess that it is in right now? Here's a photo pointed in the direction of the sliding doors which lead out to the balcony:
Yep, my stuff all in a pile, with boxes ready to be filled to get out of the way for the work that needs to be done. On Monday, for instance, my new vinyl sliding doors will go in.
I don't have a date set, yet, but sometime around the 12th of November they'll start working on installing my new floor. Here's the wood, already delivered, sitting in my front room acclimating to the conditions in my home:
I'm really quite excited about this - my place will look totally different. That new floor will darken up the place; most people like "light and bright" - but somehow that just isn't my thing.
In my plan, you can see a desk with a television on it. That desk isn't my favorite thing in the world, but I think it'll hold my new television, which I have purchased specifically for watching movies on DVD.
Behind that desk, as a sort of wall - or separator - to make the kitchen distinct from the living room, I'm going to hang somthing, probably a "curtain of beads" like all the hippies used to have in the early '70s, but I'll replace it with something better when something comes along. What I'd like would be something like a larger version of this beach towel that I currently have hanging in a window to give me a bit of privacy (I threw out all of my window coverings - I've got to buy them, too, to match my new floors):
Television - or, rather, DVD movies - is a central theme of my redecorating, actually - just setting up the living room in a "home theater" fashion - the television itself has a screen in a ratio of 16:9, just like movie screens:
So that's the current run down and me rambling.
