I had a weird experience as a kid:
I woke up in the middle of the night and had a strange impulse to look out the window. A couple of seconds after beginning to look out, I suddenly saw a bright streak of light zap down onto my front lawn - it happened so fast that I doubted whether or not I'd really seen anything. Then I just turned over and went to bed.
In the morning, having completely forgotten the whole experience, I happened to notice in my back yard a "rock" or sorts in the lawn which had smashed down through the grass. Suddenly, my memory sparked of the event from the previous night, and my child mind suggested to me, "It's a meteorite!" That thought was followed with something along the lines of, "Oh, yeah, right - and what are the odds of THAT happening?" and then, because the memory of the night before were so faint and dream like, I wondered if it was a "manufactured memory" of some kind.
I don't know, today, whether or not I really woke up that night and looked out the window, and if I did, I don't know whether or not I really saw a bright streak - but I've still got that damned rock; I must've had it for around 25 years now. And it does look, to me, about what I expect that a meteorite would look like.
