The Koran has passages within it which very clearly demonstrate that in order to be a true Muslim that you must bring violence and death to all non-Muslims. No, the passages are not "subject to interpretation" - they are clear, pricise, and that's exactly what they say. No, they're not situationally conditional, they apply all the time.
And, no, I'm not going to cite the passages for you or tell you where in the Koran to find them (why? because I don't know where they are, nor have I memorized them verbatim; it is enough for me that I've read them in books and heard them quoted on television many times over the years to believe that they are there).
Bill O'Reilly recently interviewed some Americanized Muslims on the O'Reilly factor and he quoted some of the passages to them. He then asked them how they can claim to be in favor of peace love of others, even others of other faiths, when their religion so clearly demands otherwise. They responded that they simply don't agree with those particular passages in the Koran. O'Reilly pressed them, saying that wasn't the point - the Koran says it - so how can they promote a religion that is hell bent on bringing violence and death to those who are "infidels"? They just didn't get it and couldn't give logical answers (refused to face logic is more like it). [I didn't see this episode of the O'Reilly factor - it was relayed to me by an acquaintance.]
I call Muslims who believe in American values, such as having respect for the rights of all people, regardless of their religion, "Americanized Muslims". Americanized Muslims aren't real Muslims, because they don't really believe in and practice Islam, they just think they do (as was demonstrated on the O'Reilly factor). Instead, they're just pretending to be Muslims - and these Muslims are OK.
Americanized Muslims hold pre-determined standards for right and wrong, and they judge the passages in the Koran by those standards. Real Muslims get their standards of right and wrong from the Koran. To the real Muslims of the world I say, if you choose to put your beliefs into practice, know that the Apache Helicopters will be coming for you.
But, that's not my point of posting here. With respect to the celebrations in the White House, I think we can be certain that what was being celebrated was "Americanized Islam", and not the real deal. It's fair.
Here's a little tidbit on true Islam (more available here ):
Here's how the ayatollah himself put it: "...Moslems have no alternative... to an armed holy war against profane governments. ...Holy war means the conquest of all non-Moslem territories. ...It will ...be the duty of every able-bodied adult male to volunteer for this war of conquest, the final aim of which is to put Koranic law in power from one end of the earth to the other. "The leaders of the USSR and of England and the president of the United States are ...infidels.... ...Every part of the body of a non-Moslem individual is impure, even the hair on his head and his body hair, his nails, and all the secretions of his body. Any man or woman who denies the existence of God, or believes in His partners [the Christian Trinity], or else does not believe in His Prophet Mohammed, is impure (in the same way as are excrement, urine, dog, and wine)[sic]."
Concluded the Ayatollah, "Islam does not allow peace between... a Moslem and an infidel." Though many of us imagine that the promotion of harmony is a prime objective of every major world faith, the ayatollah disagreed. "The leaders of our religion were all soldiers, commanders and warriors," he wrote, "...they killed and they were killed."
The concept of a peaceful prophet was so alien to the ayatollah that he was convinced Christ's message had been deliberately distorted by Westerners. Said Khomeini, "This idea of turning the other cheek has been wrongly attributed to Jesus (peace be unto him); it is those barbaric imperialists that have attributed it to him. Jesus was a prophet, and no prophet can be so illogical."
